ESSENTIAL RULES (for all Boaters)

MATERIALS OF SAFETY RECOMMANDED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
- Always keep boat records on board (originals)
:"acte de francisation,"
i.e., French registration papers, and "titre de navigation"
showing registration with Affaires Maritimes. - Always check the weather report before heading out to
sea. - For crossings or significant voyages, be sure to inform someone
of your departure and anticipated time of arrival in the destination. - Respect the rules for right-of-way : they apply to ALL
boats.
Motors : Motor-powered recreational water vehicles, i.e., personal watercrafts
(jetskis, etc.), must be registered and are required to follow the
same rules of circulation as other vessels. - Operator's
license obligatory for all vessels or water implements over 6 hp. - As a prerequisite
for personal watercraft rental, a statement must be signed by the
renter declaring his/her knowledge of the vehicle's operation. - All boats and
implements equipped with an outboard motor over 6 hp must have a
cutout switch.
CONTROL YOUR SPEED Violation of speed limits can lead to serious accident and constitutes
an infraction punishable under the Commercial Maritime court. - If you are witness to an accident, provide assistance and immediately
notify CROSSAG : tel : 0596 70 92 92 or VHF ch. 16
- If you are victim of an accident, use distress signals and
remain as close as possible to your vessel.
Respect the environment : - Approach slowly.
No wake means no surf to contribute to coastal erosion. - Use available
anchorages or moorings. Anchors damage the sea bed. - The ocean is
not a garbage can. Bring along trash bags and dispose of them in
appropriate bins once on land.
